What can I say? As Don Mclean said: "the day the music died". This was the year the music died ... almost! The Market in the Mountains disappeared for 3 months; I was booked to play at the RSL in April and July but neither of these events went ahead. I had a rest from music altogether. Fortunately we came back in July and the markets in July and August have been great.
Sunday 13th September 2020 is the next Market in the Mountains from 8am to 12 midday. Remember it is about physical distancing and NOT social distancing! Come along, check out the stalls and have some fun!
Caz at the Happy Valley Hippy Shop in Victoria Street, Stanthorpe is hosting a Busking Hour each Saturday from 11 to 12 midday. Drop by and check out the sounds - James Stump, Perfect Disarray, 9 Year Sister and more. My turn is Saturday 19th September. It would be nice to see you.
Someone recently said to me that this must be a great time for writing songs and it made me stop and reflect. No, I haven't been inspired during 2020 to write a single thing. My style of songwriting is very organic. Very similar to the Dolly Parton quote above. But I learned way back when that I have no desire that is born in misery. I don't want to sing it and I don't think most people want to hear it. A song may take you to a sad place, touch a feeling, but it must then return to a place somewhere in the sun and leave you with a warm feeling. That is my intent.
See you at the Market in the Mountains next Sunday and at the Happy Valley Hippy Shop the following Saturday.
Take care out there... regards... Mark
